$________ Dog bite – 4-year-old bitten twice – Slight facial scarring and leg scarring – Fear of dogs.

Essex County, NJ

This case was brought under the strict liability dog bite statute. The plaintiff contended that the infant plaintiff, a little girl who was then age 4 years old, was bitten by the defendant’s dog in the face and leg.

The plaintiff supported that the facial bite caused injury to the upper lip and bridge of the nose, and opined that she will permanently exhibit some discoloration near the upper lip. The laceration to the bridge of the nose substantially resolved. The infant plaintiff also maintained she will permanently suffer relatively slight scarring to one leg. The plaintiff further contended that the incident caused a fear of dogs, which will continue for the foreseeable future. The case was submitted to arbitration, and resulted in a $________ arbitration award. The parties agreed to settle for this amount.
