Richard T. Picciochi has been a forensic scientist since 1980. He is retired from the NYPD Forensic Investigation Division where he was a detective, document analyst, and the Technical Supervisor in the Questioned Document Unit. He is currently a private consultant, professor of forensic sciences at Hofstra University, and has trained government document examiners.

In the course of his career Mr. Picciochi has examined thousands of cases and has been qualified to testify numerous times as an expert in civil, criminal, and administrative courts.

Mr. Picciochi's services include the following:

Initial Consultation: Each case is unique. Prior to the submission of any document, the relevant facts, types of examinations, collection of exemplars, and procedure for submitting items will be discussed.

Handwriting Examinations: Questioned signatures, cursive text, printed text, numerals, and initials may be examined to identify or eliminate a writer.

Laboratory Examinations: In addition to handwriting and signature comparisons an examination will generally entail a multi-faceted approach and an array of techniques to help resolve issues concerning the authenticity of the document itself. The tests conducted will depend, to a large extent, on the nature of the document and the circumstances surrounding the investigation.

Field Examinations
: Documents that are unavailable for submission (e.g., originals in possession of another party or agency) may be examined and photographed on-site.

Reports and Testimony: Oral or written reports, affidavits, demonstrative charts, pretrial conference and expert testimony are provided as required.

Mr. Picciochi earned a Master of Science degree with a concentration in the forensic sciences in 1980 and a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in the natural sciences in 1977. He has completed extensive formal and practical training with the NYPD, FBI, Secret Service and continues to attend specialized workshops and symposia.

Mr. Picciochi is a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners (ABFDE) and was awarded certification upon completion of comprehensive written, practical, and oral examinations.
