In this negligence action, the plaintiff alleged that the defendants were negligent in erecting and maintaining the scaffolding upon which he and his coworkers were standing when it collapsed. The plaintiff fell 40 feet and was rendered paraplegic. The defendants denied negligence and disputed liability for the plaintiff’s injuries.

The 36-year-old mason was working on the construction of a parking garage at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge in ________. He was standing on a scaffolding platform approximately 40 feet in the air when the platform collapsed. The plaintiff and his coworkers fell to the ground. The plaintiff sustained burst fractures to his spine at T11 and T12, which rendered him a paraplegic.

The plaintiff brought suit against the defendant construction firms and contractors involved alleging negligence in the construction and maintenance of the scaffolding and safety of the workplace. The plaintiff also alleged claims of consortium for his wife and children.

The defendants denied negligence and disputed liability, however, three days into the trial, the parties entered into a confidential settlement agreement for the sum of $________. The terms and breakdown of the settlement agreement were not released.
