In this nursing home malpractice action, the estate of the decedent alleged that the staff at the defendant nursing home negligently allowed the decedent to develop gangrene and pressure ulcers that led to surgery and complications leading to an overall decline in health, and ultimately resulting in death.

In June of ________, the male decedent was admitted to the defendant skilled nursing facility. In October of ________, the decedent was taken to the hospital with breathing difficulties. While hospitalized, it was determined that the decedent had gangrene of the second toe, which required amputation. He also had osteomyelitis and decubitus ulcers of the scrotum and sacrum. These injuries led to a quick and severe decline in health, and the decedent died on February 19, ________. The estate argued that the defendants were negligent in failing to have proper protocols in place to prevent the decedent’s injuries, failing to timely diagnose and treat the decedent’s injuries, failing to staff the hospital with qualified personnel, and providing substandard care. The defendant denied all liability and injury.The parties settled their dispute for $________.
