The defendants, RCI Entertainment (New York), Inc. and Peregrine Enterprises, Inc. Rick’s Cabaret, a New York City gentleman’s club, is owned by Peregrine – itself a unit of defendant RCI. The plaintiffs – a class of exotic dancers who worked at Rick’s Cabaret in New York from ________ through October ________ – claimed that Rick’s Cabaret New York misclassified entertainers as independent contractors. The plaintiffs sought minimum wage for the hours they danced and return of certain fees.

In ________, the plaintiffs filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, accusing defendants, RCI Entertainment (New York), Inc. and Peregrine Enterprises, Inc. of violating the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as state labor laws. The plaintiff sought unpaid wages they claimed to be owed as employees, as well as certain fees. The defendant maintained the dancers were properly classified, and that amounts earned were well in excess of the minimum wage and should satisfy any obligations.The matter was settled with the class for approximately $________ to be paid to the plaintiff class and its attorneys. Trial in the certified class action was scheduled to begin on April 27, ________.
