New Haven County, Connecticut

In this negligence matter, the plaintiff alleged that the defendant vet was liable for injuries sustained by her dog while it was in the care of the defendant. The defendant denied the allegations and disputed the nature and extent of the plaintiff’s alleged damages.

The plaintiff was the owner of a trained Chihuahua which appeared in various commercials and television programs. The plaintiff brought the dog to the defendant veterinarian for treatment of lacerations on the dog’s feet. The plaintiff alleged that while the dog was in the defendant’s care, it suffered burns as a result of the use of a heating device. The plaintiff alleged that the injuries sustained by the dog caused it disfigurement and reduced its value as a performer which, in turn, diminished the plaintiff’s economic gain.

The plaintiff brought suit against the defendant, alleging negligence and breach of service contract in the care and treatment of her dog. The defendant denied the allegations and disputed the plaintiff’s damage claims.
